Castles in the Sand

Build a beach. Then the tide.

Shape wet sand into castles with one finger, plant your flag, and let the sea have a go at it. The water is real, and so is the way your walls give way.

One finger builds

Three ways to work the sand

Two fingers move the camera: drag to pan, pinch to zoom, twist to turn. In the browser, the mouse does the same.

Scoop

Cut channels, dig moats, carve a way for the water to go.

Drag

Pat

Press a wall firm so the sea has to work for it.

Tap

Stamp

Press a bucket mold into the sand and lift it clean away.

Pick a mold, tap

Then the tide

The sea is not an animation

Water flows downhill, soaks into the sand, carries grains away and drops them somewhere else. Wet sand wicks, slumps and settles.

A wall that gets too wet sags. A moat that drains does its job. Your castle survives, or melts, for the same reasons a real one would.

When the tide eats your tower, it’s because the water really did undercut it.

The campaign

Twelve levels, two kinds of problem

Each level teaches a tool and gives you a new bucket mold when you finish it.

A red flag planted on a sculpted mound, with the Start the Tide button ready.
Protect the flag

Hold back the sea

Plant your flag, build whatever you think will save it, then keep the sea from soaking or undermining it for a whole tide.

The First Channel level: a target ring on the sand and a shelf of bucket molds.
Hydraulics

Let the sea in, on purpose

Route the incoming water into marked basins, then make it stay there as the tide comes and goes.

★★★Fewer grains moved means more stars. The best builders do the least.

No goals unless you want them

Free play, always

Every mold you have unlocked, a whole beach and a tide button. Free play is one tap from the main menu, and the levels are there when you want them.

The flag stands!

Made to be quiet

Sand hisses under your finger. Waves break, run up and drain away. Every sound is synthesized, with a slow, soft music bed under it all.

Cozy, not punishing

No lives and no timer in your face. The tide is the timer, and it’s slow and easy to see. If it takes your castle, build another.

Runs on what you have

Phones, tablets and the browser. Quality presets change only how it looks. The sand behaves the same on every setting.

Fair and quiet about it

What you should know before you play

  • No accounts, no sign-in. The game itself plays offline. Your beach, progress and settings stay on your device.
  • Ads between levels, never during a round. On phones and tablets, a full-screen ad can appear when you leave a finished level, at most once every twenty minutes.
  • Saying no costs nothing. If the tide takes your flag, you can choose to watch an ad to save the level, or not.
  • One purchase removes them for good. Restore Purchase brings it back on your other devices. The browser version has no ads at all.
  • Nothing about you is collected. Ads are matched to the game, not to you. Read the privacy policy.
